In reply to your letter No. 301 of the 12th. instant, I beg to state that according to the books herewith returned the man Carl Abrens did not belong to the German "Marine Reserve" but to the "Marine Ersatz Reserve". He, therefore, did no active service in the German Army nor Navy.

The contents of the books do not prove

that Ahrens is a German subject but make it very probable. I therefore very much regret that owing to want of fund for such purposes I am not able to arrange for his removal from the Colony or for his disposal in some other manner.
